Cover: Simulated crystal growth on the fcc(001) face of a crystal-substrate binary alloy. Two types of atoms are deposited (indicated by blue and orange spheres) and may move around on the surface. The substrate has a perfect CuPt crystal structure; ideally the grown layers would continue this regular pattern. Note, however, that several substitutional errors have occurred, leading to imperfections in the crystal structure. (Simulation and graphic by James Blue ([email protected].)
