Abstract:
As part of our study of techniques for solving PDE - constrained
optimization problems with significant nonlinear inequality
constraints, we have investigated a class of hierarchical control
problems. In this paper we report on the results of the application
of an algorithm designed for inequality constrained problems to the
solution of a model problem involving reaction-diffusion-type state
equations and several pointwise controls satisfying quadratic
constraints. The efficiency of the algorithm in solving this problem
is discussed, including the dependence of the numerical behavior of
the approximation on the values of a viscosity parameter.
