ITL Mathematician Featured in Women in Mathematics
February 1999
Published in 1997, the book Women in Mathematics profiles Dr.
Fern Hunt, a mathematician in the ITL Mathematics and Computational
Sciences Division. The article describes her experiences in pursuing
an education and career in mathematics and recognizes Hunt's
accomplishments as a professor and researcher at Howard University in
mathematical biology and applied mathematics. In 1993, Hunt accepted
a position at NIST where she works on mathematical problems that
arise in research on the physics and chemistry of materials that are
important to U.S. industry. She continues to encourage undergraduate
students in mathematics by lecturing at colleges and universities and
by working with summer students.
